We will share our cycling adventures at Ride Out between 19:00-22:00! The ultimate challenge of a 5,000-kilometer bike journey across Africa. Despite having no prior experience with long-distance cycling, we pedaled through five African countries and passed by seven nature parks under the management of the African Parks Foundation.⁠

To ensure the success of this expedition, Ride Out and @focusbikes provided us with the essential technical know-how and equipment. During this special evening, we will recount their remarkable experiences and escapades from this bike ride, emphasizing the significance of African Parks.

Dear Cycling4Wildlife supporter,

We want to thank you very much for your support to the Cycling4Wildlife Foundation. With your support, we have raised a total amount of €84.138! This incredible amount of money benefits the African Parks Foundation. African Parks is currently responsible for managing 22 nature parks across Africa, implementing their effective conservation model. The funds will be donated to a vital aspect of this model: Environmental Education. Through Environmental Education initiatives, African Parks is able to engage in local communities, promoting sustainable practices and inspiring a new generation dedicated to conservation. During our cycling journey, we have witnessed multiple success stories, including former poachers turning to sustainable farming and local safari guides educating and motivating young children in local primary schools. Seeing all this firsthand, we know that your contributions are in good hands and wil make a great impact.

To give you an insider glimpse of the Cycling4Wildlife project, we created an online photo album (link in bio). It shows our journey from the first training in the snowy Netherlands till the plains of Liuwa Plain in Zambia. We hope you enjoy it!

Lastly, we would like to make an appeal. We would like to start a second Cycling4Wildlife project. That means that we are looking for a group of individuals passionate about raising funds and awareness for nature conservation through an extreme cycling challenge. We welcome all initiatives! If you are interested or know someone who might be, please reach out to us.

With Kafue National Park behind us, we knew our cycling adventure was almost over. With mixed feelings, we cycled to our final destination: Liuwa Plain National Park. We were happy that we all made it in one piece and sad that this adventure, which seemed endless for a long time, had come to an end. The ending at Liuwa Plain NP felt like arriving at the end of the world. Absolutely stunning. Thank you Deon and Anèl for having us and creating the best ending we could wish for.

That we were able to end our adventure in such a positive way is certainly not due to us four. It's because of all the incredible people who supported us, helped us, cheered for us, followed us, and donated to the @cyclingforwildlife foundation. To all these people, we want to say thank you. Without you, this journey would literally not have been possible.

Conservation starts with education! At the moment, we have raised €84,138. This will be donated shortly to the Environmental Education programs of the African Parks Foundation.

WE DID IT!! After the most incredible and intense

WE DID IT!!

After the most incredible and intense 10 weeks of our lives, we have reached Liuwa Plain National Park!

The adventure that started in the Land of a Thousand Hills finished in a wide open plain. As a finish line, Liuwa could not be more symbolic: riding on sandy roads leading nowhere, we really felt as if we were at the end of the world.

As proud as we are to have reached the finish line on our bicycles, we still have some distance to cover before we reach our fundraising target. To date we have raised over €80,000 for environmental education which, as you know by now, is crucial in order to protect Africa’s last remaining wilderness areas.

Now that we have reached Liuwa Plain, we kindly ask you, our friends, family and supporters, to help us reach our financial finish line, and push us across the €100,000 mark that is needed to support the incredible work African Parks is doing.

In 2003, Majete became the first park to fall under the management of @africanparksnetwork. A small, neglected game reserve in the south of Malawi, Majete was a park no one seemed to care for. But thanks to AP’s monumental efforts since then, Majete has become one of THE conservation success stories of recent decades. Today, the park boasts incredible numbers of wildlife and offers some of the best game viewing in Africa.

With its wide open floodplains and majestic mopane

With its wide open floodplains and majestic mopane forest, Liwonde is one of the most spectacular places the four of us have ever visited. During the day we spent most of our time watching elephants, at night the lions kept us awake. Though we only got to spend three days in the park, our time here left an impression that will last for a lifetime.
